Mega-Band, Imagine Dragons, performed at this year’s 2021 Game Awards, a show that celebrates the games within the last year. Imagine Dragons, along with Sting, were a part of a handful of performances for the night. The band had hinted at their performance and noted that they will be joined by a special guest for a special video game inspired performance. The guests were Darren Korb and Ashley Barrett from Supergiant Games. They came together and performed “Build That Wall” and “Enemy”, which are both on the soundtrack to Supergiant’s Bastion, a popular Action Role-Playing video game that was released way back in 2011. Bastion was Supergiant Games’ first release and has had a total of 4 game releases to date.
The performance was a simple stage with a digital backdrop of the city in hints of red and then blue the band bounced around and jammed to the song.
The performance was uploaded on to YouTube, which can be seen below, and the general feedback was an appreciation of the surprising throwback from a popular game. While the audience seemed to be engaged in the performance, there is no other indication as to why the band was chosen to perform. However, the attendees and viewer were most likely more preoccupied with the surprise of the song choices and the sense of nostalgia that comes with it.
