As many bands cautiously return to live shows, there’s an anxious feeling about if the show is going to be fun, energetic and feeling back to ‘normal.’ But Amigo The Devil, Tejon Street Corner Thieves and Stephanie Lambring all remarked that the energy of Thursday’s show was more than they hoped for with a tour back.
Stephanie Lambring opened the night with her folk, southern-twist on singer-songwriter tunes. All lyrics focused on deep topics and hard truths that had the whole venue breathing quietly so they could hear her every word. Next on stage was the ‘trashgrass’ band Tejon Street Corner Thieves. Their high-energy songs had everyone singing along, even if people didn’t previously know the words. At one point, a mosh pit opened up on stage. At another point, after much encouragement from the audience, the band stripped off their shirts and performed the rest of the set topless. After a lineup of back-to-back party songs, the band finished their set but came back for an encore after a loud request from the audience.
Headlining and closing out the night, Amigo The Devil walked out on stage to Megan Thee Stallions “Thot Shit,” inciting laughter from everyone there. In the hazy ballroom, Amigo The Devil sang dark loves songs that seemed to resonate with everyone there. Highlighting his vocal power, ATD asked the audience to keep a steady clap so he could sing along with no instruments. Singing as only one man with a guitar, the set was powerful, moving, funny at times, exciting and full of energy for a new and thriving tour.
