Friday, August 13th was a night to remember as the First Annual Summer Sizzler was a major success as it produced an outstandingly enjoyable atmosphere. Fans were able to enjoy food and live music in an intimate, small venue with incredible performances from The Ruffolos, The Littlest Man Band, and Bite Me Bambi.
Immediately at the gate, we were kindly welcomed into the small venue of the Garden Amp at Garden Grove, CA. Vendor booths were set up all over the small quad before the entrance of the amphitheater. Guests were able to browse around before the show and purchase merchandise and albums at the vendor booths, enjoy drinks and food, and even learn about the nonprofit Punk Rock Saves Lives.
Roughly around 6 p.m. Bite Me Bambi’s keyboardist Mike Berault jumped on stage and asked guests to make their way to the amphitheater to begin the surprise give-away for guests who wore Jason masks to the event. Berault recognized a few faces in the crowd and made a few inside jokes. The winner of the best Jason mask contest won the honor to be “iced” by Berault, a Bite Me Bambi tradition in which one must chug an entire Smirnoff Ice.
Soon after, The Ruffolos were the first to take the stage with The Brass Boys for an incredible performance that had many people dancing. The crowd was kept entertained by the lovely host Misty Violet who had us laughing and amused with her acts. Next, Scott Klopfenstein and The Littlest Man Band took the stage for a more calming performance which was followed by the return of The Scholars.
The night closed with a dynamic performance by Bite Me Bambi who had the crowd singing along to their own hits and ska renditions of major hits such as The Go-Go’s “Our Lips Are Sealed” and The Offspring’s “Want You Bad.” With confetti raining down, all performers joined Bite Me Bambi on stage for their final number, a truly magical experience for fans.
