Sleigh Bells- the duo of producer/ guitarist Derek Miller and singer Alexis Krauss- released a new track from their upcoming album Texis titled “Justine Go Genesis.” Bringing back the 90s drum and bass like it never left, this song brings together the best of both worlds, metal riffs, bright melodies and all. This is their first single after the announcement of their sixth studio album Texis, which is set for release on September 10 on Mom+Pop Music.
The video is its own world entirely. Shot on 16mm film, it has just the right amount of nostalgia to match the song itself, it references early 80s horror films, The Twilight Zone, and the band’s own previous releases and videos. Dressed up in typical wild west attire, Derek and Alexis make it through the dreamland of cottage core ideals and inanimate objects that riddled the homes of those living through the industrial revolution. The camera zooms in on various kinds of figurines of animated bears, dogs, and inflatable angels. It really brings together the aesthetic that Sleigh Bells embodies, a place between now and then.

Speaking on their upcoming album, Sleigh Bells mentions becoming free from the constraints they put on themselves as artists and creating… well, whatever they feel like. This maximalist effort we see in “Justine Go Genesis” is something we might be hearing a lot more of in their upcoming album.
