A new lawsuit against folk-pioneer Bob Dylan alleges that the singer songwriter sexually abused a 12-year old minor in 1965. The suit was filed in New York by a woman going by J.C. The plaintiff’s lawyer claims this is where the alleged grooming and abuse happened, in Dylan’s room at the Chelsea Hotel in Manhattan. The lawsuit further alleges that the abuse happened during the time of April and May of 1965 when Dylan was either 23 or 24.
J.C. And her lawyer allege that the folk singer took advantage of his “status as a musician by grooming J.C. to gain her trust and to obtain control over her as part of his plan to sexually molest and abuse J.C.” They further allege that he also provided her with alcohol and drugs and sexually abused her “multiple times.”
According to the lawsuit, as result of the alleged abuse, J.C “suffered and continues to suffer from emotional and physical injury, including, but not limited to, serious and severe mental distress, anguish, humiliation, and embarrassment, as well as economic losses.”
Bob Dylan’s team commented on the lawsuit and it’s allegations, “The 56-year-old claim is untrue and will be vigorously defended.”
The lawsuit was filed last week, and according to Rolling Stone, this was right before the deadline for the state’s Child Victim’s Act. The act was enacted in 2019 and allows survivors of sexual abuse in their childhood to sue their abusers even if the statute of limitations to prosecute the alleged attack had passed.
