Los Angeles Artist Spotlight: Ed Maverick

There is always a new artist blowing up or causing sensation in Los Angeles; however, Ed Maverick seems to be a young artist that will soon play all over the world. At only 20-years-old this Latinx artist is raising eyebrows not only for his musical talent, but also for his strong willingness to speak about metal-health and social issues.

Just like our very own LA-native star, Cuco, Ed has grown a special fan base of young supporters through his catchy yet passionate and emotional lyricism. This young star has already captured the attention of many artists and was rumored to perform in Coachella 2020.

Eduardo Hernández Saucedo, referred to as his stage name Ed Maverick, was born in Chihuahua, Mexico. At only 17, Maverick was crowned as the leader of a new generation, specifically of indie-rock romanticism. Maverick created a mix of genres that many would consider to be opposites. He combined lo-fi beats with norteño-influenced ballads and incorporated his heart-felt lyricism that instantly trended on social media.

In 2018, Maverick officially dropped out of high school and completely dedicated himself to his music. His success grew soon after the release of his first self-published album Mix Pa Llorar En Tu Cuarto (A Mix For Crying In Your Room). In 2019 his hit single, “Accurrucar” landed him in one of Spotify’s “most listened to” lists.

In 2020, Maverick was due to tour across North America along-side other indie artists such as Cuco and Ambar Lucid. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic plans and toured dates were cancelled. Also, Maverick decided to step away from internet as he suffered through a series of cyberbullying and harassment. This pushed him to be utterly transparent with followers about his mental health and the importance to take time to check on others.

The Mexican singer-songwriter is expected to release his first full-length album later this year, as well as announce a new North American tour. Let’s hope Los Angeles gets a chance to see him perform live very soon.
