Andy Bell of Ride will be releasing a new studio album Pattern Recognition on September 24 under the name GLOK, his electronic side project. The record will be a double-LP, with guest features from poet and performer Sinead O’Brien and Primal Scream’s Simone Marie Butler.

“Maintaining the Machine” is the spacey collaboration with O’Brien, which features light synth melodies that carry the listener away alongside the poet’s sweet monologues and idiosyncratic lyrical delivery. This ethereal feeling is carried by a snappy drum beat that puts the listener into a soothing groove.

This project follows Bell’s solo debut The View From Halfway Down, which came out last fall via Sonic Cathedral Recordings. Bell also released the Skywalker EP earlier this year, which contained a remix and acoustic version of the title track. According to Bell, The View From Halfway Down was inspired by the death of David Bowie, as it finally encouraged the musician to record the project.

“I just thought I’m not getting any younger, and this isn’t going to happen unless I do something to make it happen,” Bell explained in an interview with Under The Radar. “So, I did something about it. Then a couple of days later, Gem Archer was round my house having a cup of tea as we live quite close to each other. So, I asked him if he would be interested in recording some of my solo work and he was up for it. We spent a few weeks after that recording what became the core of this record, and more as well.”
