Raging death metal
Seattle band Cerebral Rot has been blasting death metal into fans’ ears since 2016, and this month the band will be releasing the record Excretion of Morality. Ian Schwab’s vocals dominate each track with his authoritative vocals and pulse-shaking guitar riffs, while Clyle Lindstrom’s guitar playing lights the atmosphere with hard-hitting guitar notes. Zach Nehl’s bass guitar playing rumbles with deep, vibrating riffs alongside Drew O’Bryant’s drum playing, contributing to the non-stop insanity by creating thunderous drum beats. Cerebral Rot is surging forward with Excretion of Morality.
The maddening “Vile Yolk of Contagion” is a well-played piece that presents thunderous bass guitar play from Nehl. While listening, the echoing sound of fast-paced bass guitar riffs emerges from the background, and the noise is just as pleasing because the vibrations from Nehl’s guitar playing will vibrate in every listener. Nehl’s talent as a guitarist shines on “Vile Yolk of Contagion,” and it does seem like Nehl is having fun contributing to the musical insanity.
A jaw-dropping track, “Bowels of Decrepitude,” features dynamic drum playing from O’Bryant. This piece thrives on a fast-paced tempo, and O’Bryant does a great job with playing erratic drum beats that give an extra kick of energy, and hearing O’Bryant smack the cymbals with his drumstick brings a strong dose of craziness. “Bowels of Decrepitude” just happens to be a death metal composition that has a top-notch drum playing by O’Bryant.
“Drowned in Malodor” is a ruthless composition that has Schwab singing at his best. A highlight of the track is how low Schwab can sing because the raspiness of his vocals gives this piece a sense of dominance. The way Schwab grunts to the music brings authority and power. “Drowned in Malodor” is a well-sung tune that shows how strong Schwab is as a vocalist.
An electric track, “Retching Innards,” is a fun track showcasing how good of a chemistry Schwab and Lindstrom have with each other while playing their guitars. Both guitarists do a fine job creating riffs that help this tune sound amazing because each note is filled with a smashing sound that can cause some people to headbang while listening. On “Retching Innards,” both Schwab and Lindstrom prove how skillful they are with their guitar playing.
Excretion of Morality is a great example of what death metal is due to the bold instrumentation and vocals from the talented musicians of Cerebral Rot.
