NYC Punk Icon, Patti Smith to perform at SummerStage on 9/19

Patti Smith and Her Band will be performing at SummerStage in Central Park on Sunday, September 19th 2021. It is an outdoor, general admission show at Rumsey Playfield that is scheduled to run from 7:00pm-8:30pm, with doors opening at 5:00pm. The show is free and ticket requests open on August 31st.

Patti Smith has been a staple of the New York music scene since her 1975 debut album, Horses. Smith is best known for her 1978 single “Because the Night”, which she co-wrote with Bruce Springsteen. Patti Smith began performing with Her Band in 1975 until their disbandment in 1979. Smith reformed Her Band in 1995, and it retains two of its founding members – Lenny Kaye and Jay Dee Daughtery.

Smith’s latest solo album, Banga, was released in 2012 to widespread acclaim. Her most recent work is a series of albums with Soundwalk Collective, which are inspired by french literature and were released in 2020. Her SummerStage performance is likely to include a mix of her new work and iconic songs from the 1970s and 1980s.

If you’re in the mood for a show that will take you back to the heyday of New York punk, you’ll want to get tickets to this show.
