Current Joys has announced a performance at Mohawk Outdoor Sunday, January 23 2022 with doors opening at 6:30 pm to the public and music commencing at 7:30 pm. This is an all-ages show with GA tickets currently being sold for $22.
Solo project of Surf Curse drummer Nick Rattigan, AKA Current Joys, is an American singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, vocalist, journalist, and music video director originating from Reno, Nevada.
Current Joys’ tunefully murky, early-post-punk-colored songs first appeared on the self-recorded Wild Heart in 2013. Often evoking a daydreamy, bedroom version of The Cure, Current Joys released five more albums and a pair of collections before significantly polishing its sound on 2021’s still-moody, 16-song Voyager. Arriving after a significant bump in streams spurred by popular social media posts, it was the project’s first professional studio recording and first to feature a backing band as well as Current Joys’ debut for Secretly Canadian.
To listen to a Current Joys song is to be immersed fully in Nick Rattigan’s world. An avid consumer of cinema, a visual artist as much as he is a musician, Rattigan’s music is tactile, its imagery and sonics conceived simultaneously. It’s unclear where the films Rattigan is inspired by stop and his personal life starts, but the blending is what makes Voyager so remarkable.
