Lake Street Dive and Allison Russell will be performing at Capital One City Parks Foundation SummerStage in Central Park on Tuesday, August 24th. It is an outdoor, general admission show at Rumsey Playfield that is scheduled to go from 7:00pm-10:00pm. Tickets range from $49.50-$55.00 and can be purchased on AXS.
Lake Street Dive is a Brooklyn based multi-genre band that has been performing together since 2004. The band is named after a row of dive bars on Lake Street in founding member Mike Olson’s hometown of Minneapolis. Their sound is best described by drummer, Mike Calabrese, as “like the Beatles and Motown had a party together,” mixing elements of jazz, folk and classic rock. They reached mainstream popularity in 2018, when their album Free Yourself Up peaked at number 8 on the Billboard Alternative Chart, and the top single from the album, “Good Kisser”, peaked at number 12.
Their 2021 tour is in support of their album Obviously, released in March of 2021. This album is the band’s seventh studio album, and showcases the band’s ability to produce consistent, cohesive music, while still maintaining their funky, experimental sound. It peaked at number 63 on the Billboard 200, and number 6 on Billboard’s list of top alternative albums.
The show will feature Allison Russell, a Nashville based singer and songwriter, who just released her debut album Outside Child. The album deals with Russell’s childhood experiences of homelessness and sexual abuse. It is a harrowing and poetic work of songwriting, that is only improved upon by Russell’s comforting and powerful vocal delivery.
The incredible musical talent that Lake Street Dive and Allison Russell possess means that this show is sure to be one of the highlights of SummerStage.
