Mannequin Pussy’s newest video, “Perfect,” was released on April 26, 2020 and featured drag queens Onyx Ondyx and Omyra Lynn. The single “Perfect” was released on the same date.
The video takes place during a high school’s 10th reunion. The setting is a taupe ballroom with reunion attendees conversing with one another. “I’m surprised you still recognize me, I want to get so much work done. I want to be so pulled up,” says a pregnant woman. The reunion is upended when the band begins to play. Ondyx and Lynn enter and tear apart the small, hotel dance floor. “Oh, don’t you think I’m perfect?/Oh the way I dance for you?” sings frontwoman Marisa Dabice. Their glittery gloves and thigh-high boots contrasting with the drab ballroom–– offering both a figurative and literal middle finger to the other reunion attendees.
The song is fast and loud, with heavy distortion on the vocals and a thumping bass line. During the instrumental, the reunion attendees laugh along with vocalist Marisa “Missy” Dabice, also dressed similarly to drag performers Ondyx and Lynn. Pi Queen did makeup for Dabice, and Allie Pearce was in charge of costume design.
The video was directed by Dabice, and produced by Laris Kreslins.
“Perfect,” was released ahead of Mannequin Pussy’s new EP, Perfect. The EP will be released on May 21. Perfect is the band’s first release since their 2019 album Patience. They also released a video for their single “Control” on their EP Perfect, on March 23.
Mannequin Pussy began in 2011 in Philadelphia. Dabice and drummer Athanasios Paul met in school. In 2016, Colins “Bear” Regisford joined their lineup as a bassist. The band has released three studio albums: Mannequin Pussy (2014), Romantic (2016) and Patience (2019).
