Primus hits the stage at Austin City Limits Live at the Moody theater Saturday, June 12 with a special performance of Rush’s album A Farewell to Kings in its entirety. This show is for all ages with doors opening at 5:30 pm and music embracing the crowd at 7 pm. If you know Primus, you know the show won’t be cheap, with general admission tickets being sold for a whopping $125 with a VIP package special sold for $249.
Prog, funk, metal, and experimental rock band Primus, writers of the South Park theme song, is currently composed of bassist/vocalist Les Claypool, guitarist Larry “Ler” LaLonde, and drummer Tim “Herb” Alexander. Primus has had many iterations of members throughout the years since their first formation in 1984, but with Claypool leading the band and carrying the sound with his noteworthy ground-shaking bass with his vocals acting as a bizarre sideshow there always seems to be a coherent sound. At first, Primus was an underground phenomenon, but between their third and fourth albums, their cult grew rapidly. With their album Sailing the Seas of Cheese in 1991 going gold, their album Pork Soda debuting in the top ten, and a headlining show at Lollapalooza, Primus became a household band name of the 90s.
Rush is a band that was a heavy influence on Primus when they were first making music, so it seems fitting for them to pay tribute to one of their favorite albums. This show will be nothing short of their willfully weird attitude and will be everything worth your money.
