Mogwai has shared a music video for their single “Ceiling Granny,” which compiles vintage footage mimicking an old TV screen. The video had been filmed and edited by Jon Miner, a filmmaker and skateboarder.
The music video for “Ceiling Granny” features video from Miner’s archive dating back to 1995, the year that Mogwai had been formed. “Ceiling Granny” had appeared on Mogwai’s 10th studio album, As The Love Continues.
“Having a career in skateboarding for the past 25 years I’ve had the pleasure of working with Mogwai on a variety of skate video projects, their music has always been a huge inspiration,” Miner said in a press statement. “As a result of the lockdown last year I had time to organize some of my film archives, going back to Super 8 reels from 1995. Being a young skateboarder with a camera there’s a playfulness in the quality of the film and the moments captured while traveling to different parts of the globe for the first time. With the overall climate of 2020 it felt good to revisit that feeling.”
The video features a crowd dispersing in an alley to make way for the camera, flamingo strutting in slow motion while fish swim rapidly around a pond. The instrumentals create a relatively calm soundtrack to the fast-paced videos, Miner’s footage moving in time to the music.
Mogwai released the High Fidelity album, As The Love Continues, in March. Ahead of the release, Mogwai debuted the album during livestream concert. The album had been led by two singles, “Dry Fantasy,” “Ritchie Sacramento” and “Pat Stains.” As The Love Continues also featured collaborations with Colin Stetson and Atticus Ross.
