Listen to Future Islands’ cover of “The Moon is Blue” here:

In this chapter, listeners hear Future Islands cover “The Moon is Blue” by Colourbox. The cover of the 1985 track brings modernized synth sounds, while still paying homage to the song’s signature ‘80s sound. The original song’s moody and atmospheric essence is captured and reinvented in Future Islands’ cover.

Listen to Jenny Hval’s cover of “Sunbathing” here:

The 1990 original song’s mellow, ethereal sound is emulated in Jenny Hval’s cover. With more emphasis on Hval’s vocals, the cover is a skillful recreation of Lush’s mystical track with a modernized flair that suits Hval’s voice.

Listen to Dry Cleaning’s cover of “Oblivion” here:

Dry Cleaning’s cover of the 2012 Grimes song has a mysterious overtone, matching the track’s dark lyrics. The cover acts as a more solemn and slowed-down rendition of the whimsical original

Listen to Bradford Cox’s cover of “Mountain Battles” here:

The slowed down, experimental cover of the 2008 track is serene and reflective, characteristic of the original. Ominous sound effects like screeching violins take the cover up a notch, adding a cryptic, almost creepy level.
