Rapper 2 Eleven has teamed up with Freddie Gibbs to create almost an entire album’s worth of collaborative tracks between the two. While Mastermind isn’t entirely considered a collaborative album, 2 Eleven’s new release features eight total songs with six of those including Gibbs.
Mastermind was released on March 19 via NORF Records. Along with features from Gibbs, artists like Quincey White, Cassie and Rucci were also featured on tracks that are on the album. The only two tracks that do not feature any other artist are “Passports” and “24 Summers.”
2 Eleven is a rapper from Inglewood, California and is known for working with numerous artists to release collaborative tracks. In the past, he has worked with artists such as Glasses Malone, Ice Burgundy, Mitchy Slick and more. Gibbs, who is a more commonly known rapper, has worked with artists like Schoolboy Q, The Alchemist and Benny The Butcher.
Earlier this year, Gibbs had collaborated with Schoolboy Q for their track “Gang Sings,” which was accompanied by a music video where the duo was portrayed as a gangster rabbit and a turtle.
Gibbs also recently made a cover of “Winter in America,” which was originally featured on Gil Scott-Heron’s 1974 album. The song was made to be featured on The Undefeated’s Black History Always / Music for the Movement Vol. 2.
Late last year, mxdwn’s Top 50 Best Albums of 2020 had dropped where Gibbs’ collaborative album with the Alchemist titled Alfredo had fallen at No. 14 on the list.
