Album Review: Of Mice & Men – Timeless EP

Rock and metal music jolts the ears

Californian band Of Mice & Men have been creating havoc since 2009, and they released Timeless EP on the February 26th. Although the EP consists of just three songs, each tune is filled with powerful vocals and instrumentation. The bass guitar playing and vocals from Aaron Pauley are dynamic because he shreds the background with deep guitar riffs and sings with authority, the guitar playing from Alan Ashby and Phil Manansala lights the atmosphere with hard-hitting guitar notes and the drumming from Valentino Arteaga is great due to how each drum beat quickens on each track. Of Mice & Men have done a great job with Timeless EP.

The intro track, “Timeless,” welcomes listeners to the world the band lives in. On this piece, the instrumentation steals the show because it shows how well the band stays attuned with one another while playing. The guitar playing by Ashby, Manansala and Pauley rumbles with smashing riffs that can cause some listeners heartbeats to go faster, and Arteaga’s drum playing shreds with booming rock beats that hold this composition together. If people are looking for loud and strong music, “Timeless” can fill that expectation.

Powerful “Obsolete” is a bold piece due to the vocal performance from Pauley. Pauley’s vocal style is wild by how he sings in a higher, dominant tone, then switches to a harmonic cadence that sings with raw emotion. It is fun listening to a vocalist who switches his vocal range from high to low because it shows how talented Pauley is with his voice and how he isn’t afraid to show the world who he is as a vocalist. “Obsolete” is a great song due to how Pauley uses his vocals to shine.

The last song, “Anchor,” not only closes the EP, but it has fabulous lead guitar playing from Manansala. Right at the beginning of the song, Manansala blazes the composition with impactful riffs that are being played on a simple structure. It’s also nice to hear how much Manansala has grown as a guitarist, demonstrating how capable he is of creating massive riffs that can shake the speakers off the shelves. “Anchor” brings a beautiful ending to Timeless EP, with the guitar playing from Manansala contributing to the endless madness from the rest of the band.

Timeless EP is a well-produced EP that displays how much Of Mice & Men have grown as a band through their wonderful vocals and instrumentation.
