Redman and Busta Rhymes have joined the late rapper Phife Dawg for a new single “Nutshell Part 2” following the previous posthumous release “Nutshell” from 2016. Phife Dawg tragically passed away in 2016 due to complications from diabetes. He was 45 years old. “Nutshell Part 2” is off the second solo record, Forever, from Phife Dawg, which will be released this year via Smokin’ Needles and AWAL.
Phife Dawg began his career in hip hop in 1985 as a founding member of the influential group A Tribe Called Quest. The band was known for revitalizing jazz samples and their lyrical dexterity, largely thanks to Phife Dawg. The group had much impact on the following generations of hip hop and following Phife Dawg’s passing, street in Queens was named after the New York native, pointing toward his influence on the New York hip hop scene specifically.
“Nutshell Part 2” adds two big names with Redman and Rhymes. The song continues with the classic Phife Dawg hip hop sound and legendary lyrics and ad-libbing.

On Forever, Phife’s family shared, “We are excited about the partnership with AWAL for Malik’s posthumous album release. We give all glory to God for allowing Malik to accomplish everything his heart desired, including his solo music. He worked really hard to complete his album before he transitioned, and he was ready to share an album that was near and dear to his heart with his fans. His fans meant the world to him.”
