Dirty Projectors finishes string of EP releases
Apart from a five-set series and final EP before their LP drop, Dirty Projectors have released their next EP within the string of releases, Ring Road, with a collective cast of all members taking part in driving vocals.
Driven by their consistent member and founder David Longstreth, the group has experienced constant lineup changes throughout its life hood, with Longstreth being its continuous pool of inspiration and motivation for its collection of eight studio albums and a plethora of singles and EPs.
Focusing on Ring Road, the EP opens with the track “Por Qué No,” an upbeat melody driven by its folky guitar strums and a collective harmonious cast of vocals, making for a lighthearted preamble folky experience. With a somber and slow opening, “Searching Spirit” hits second in the EP, featuring Longstreth’s quirky lead vocals along with others in support that brings a carefree sensation, breathing life and energy into one’s senses during the dark and cold season of the year.
Hitting a more grungier note, “No Studying” may just be people’s next theme song precisely after finishing finals for the semester; hard guitar strums propel listeners forward in a grime fashion and slam them into a slow light and delightful crawl at buoyant bridges. Concluding the final EP is “My Possession,” slow and warbling synths making this track a psychedelia-folk melody that comprises a somber feeling sprinkled over with candied sweet vocals to lead out of the track on a sugary narcosis.
Ring Road touches on downer vibes, but excels in picking up in good feeling emotion. Where this EP shines brightly is with “Por Qué No” and “No Studying,” outshining the other half of the EP by far; Ring Road shows the last completing frontier for the group before their major LP release and looks to satisfy fans with a present for the holiday season with an enormous serving of quirky lo-fi folk, a gift many fans are sure to enjoy on release day.
