Former A Tribe Called Red Member DJ Shub Shares New Song “War Club” Featuring Snotty Nose Rez Kids

DJ Shub, a former member of the indigenous Canadian electronic music group A Tribe Called Red has shared a new single called “War Club,” featuring Snotty Nose Rez Kids. This new single is the title track to the producer’s latest studio album, which came out on December 4 via Shub Music, DJ Shub’s imprint.

“War Club,” features a blend of dubstep, indigenous percussion and hip hop, with its lyrical content discussing indigenous culture as well as their current tribulations. The beat switch at the end of the song has a more trap inspired feel to it, with dark and bass infused synths as well as some vocal ad libs. This track is also accompanied by a music video showing indigenous women and land on the reservations.

DJ Shub left A Tribe Called Red back in 2014 due to personal reasons, but the performer is still a very vocal activist, supporting the rights of First Nations Peoples and the Black Lives Matter movement. His previous single “The Social” featuring Phoenix raised money in support of Black Lives Matter and Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women. According to the activist group Native Womens Wilderness indigenous women in Canada are murdered at a rate 10 times higher than other ethnicities, making murder the third-leading cause of death for those women.

A Tribe Called Red are also vocal activists supporting the rights of First Nations Peoples and blend elements of their culture’s music with electronic dance, reggae and hip hop. Their most recent release We Are the Halluci Nation came out in 2016.
