Ben Koller Says Mutoid Man and Converge Have Material Ready to Record

Prolific drummer Ben Koller spoke with BREWtally Speaking Podcast, mainly about the upcoming Killer Be Killed album. He also mentioned that his bands Converge and Mutoid Man both have lot of material written, ThePRP noted.

“Yea Converge, we have a ton of stuff ready to go,” Koller revealed during the interview. “We just need to get in the studio and sort of hash it out. I think right now I’m at the point where I’m just ready to move on and start doing stuff, because I’m going crazy here not being able to tour and stuff. So I’m ready to fly back to Massachusetts—safely obviously—and get some stuff done.”

Converge’s frontman, Jacob Bannon, has had a busy year and released music with two other groups, Blood from the Soul and Umbra Vitae. Bannon spoke with mxdwn recently about joining Blood from the Soul, a project formed by Napalm Death bassist Shane Embury that also brought in members of Megadeth and Nasum.

As for Mutoid Man, Koller’s collaboration with Stephen Brodsky of Cave In, Koller shared, “Mutoid Man basically has a whole record ready to go. We just had to get the studio, find the time, but you know it’s a weird time and a lot of weird life stuff going on and yes, it’s, it’s just very strange.”

Converge and Mutoid Man both last released albums in 2017, The Dusk in Us from Converge and War Moans from Mutoid Man. A third Koller band, All Pigs Must Die, also released their latest album in 2017, called Hostage Animal.

The new Killer Be Killed album, Reluctant Hero, is due this Friday, November 20, via Nuclear Blast. Koller is taking over for Dave Eilitch, who drummed on their previous record in 2014. Between Koller and bandmates Max Cavalera of Sepultura, Greg Puciato of The Dillinger Escape Plan and Troy Sanders of Mastodon, Killer Be Killed can comfortably be considered supergroup. mxdwn interviewed Sanders a couple months ago about Mastodon’s Medium Rarities compilation and Killer Be Killed.
