Armor For Sleep is a band that reflects the era it was it was born in. Founded in 2001 by singer/songwriter and lead guitar player Ben Jorgensen got the namesake for the band from his late night sessions writing and conceptualizing music that kept him from going to sleep. Active until 2009, Armor For Sleep made an impact and a loyal fan base with its darkly poetic lyrics about life, love, and death, all in the form of clever metaphor and deepers analysis. Armor For Sleep’s moving lyrics are bolstered by Jorgensen’s intense vocals, screaming guitar, thunderous drums, and a bass that sets the pace. Armor For Sleep aesthetically and sonically helps to define what the Emo-Pop genre is all about.
Armor For Sleep began after Jorgensen created a demo containing two singles, Dream to Make Believe and Slip Like Space. These tracks would become a part of a larger project, their debut studio album Dream to Make Believe released in 2003. Dream to Make Believe uses motifs of dreams and space to relate to the human experience, and even mixes in a little bit of space rock with the bands emo pop foundations. Their next album What to Do When You Are Dead was released in 2005 is a concept album whose lyrics reflect a story of a protagonist navigating life after death, and contains their hit tracks Car Underwater and The Truth About Heaven. Armor For Sleep’s last album was Smile For Them released in 2007, which features their track End of the World.
Armor For Sleep is reuniting once again for the fifthteenth anniversary of What to Do When You Are Dead. Be sure to see them perform it live next year!
