The sound and style of AJJ somehow seem to parody the minutiae of human suffering, making it packable and fun, a way to laugh at it. Founded in Phoenix in 2004 by lead vocalist and guitarist Sean Bonnette and bassist Ben Gallaty, have managed to turn what sounds like the ramblings of a mad man into an uppercut towards life in sonic form. AJJ tells it’s stories to the tune of a blend between folk and punk, crossing distorted vocals with an acoustic guitar. Every song and every album made by AJJ have a clever and wacky title, perfect for memorizing that one perfect line you’re going to bring up in casual conversation to look like you’re funny.
AJJ began releasing music in 2005 with their debut LP Candy Cigarettes & Cap Guns, which led them to the nomination of Best Americana band by The Phoenix New Times. Their second album People Who Can Eat People Are the Luckiest People in the World led to them going on tours around America and Europe. Their fourth album Knife Man was a new level for AJJ’s political commentary and use of sarcastic rage, finding high critical praise. Their sixth studio album The Bible 2 contained several hit singles such as Junkie Church and Goodbye, Oh Goodbye. Their latest album which came out this year is Good Luck Everybody.
AJJ’s is spoken work set on a racetrack going a thousand miles per hour. Be sure to see Good Luck Everybody performed live next year!
