Alicia Augello Cook, better known as Alicia Keys, is an iconic American singer-songwriter known for her beautiful vocals and her dedication to activism. Born and raised in Hell’s Kitchen to a single mother, Alicia Keys felt the weight of her environment heavily but never allowed it to change her love for music or the arts. Growing up with records from Billie Holiday and Ella Fitzgerald, Keys found her love for music and singing from a very young age, eventually leading to her classical training as a pianist. By twelve, she was composing songs, and by fifteen, she was already signed to Columbia Records. In 2001, Keys released her debut album, Songs in A Minor, to incredible success, selling over sixteen million copies and winning the newcomer five Grammy Awards in 2002. Since then, Keys’ career has only skyrocketed since with iconic songs like “Girl On Fire” and “No One” still making waves years later.
With fifteen Grammy Awards and other awards under her belt, Alicia Keys has cemented herself as a mainstay on the musical landscape in the U.S. Alicia Keys is a multi-faceted talent with her songwriting skills, vocal abilities, production talent, and classical training, proving she is a force to be reckoned with.
