Ecuadorian DJ and music producer Nicola Cruz is coming to The Regent Theater on October 24, 2020. He’ll be heading on an International tour this fall, bringing his electronic and traditional Ecuadorian sounds across the globe. His latest release, Siku was named after an Andean wind instrument, which is highly symbolic in ancestral rituals. He’s known to collaborate with other international artists, including Chilean-American composer, Nicolas Jaar.
Cruz’s music is heavily influenced by his country of origin, bringing to mind the landscapes of the Andes mountains and the Amazon jungle. He carefully crafts his sounds and beats from living roots and rituals that are part of South American culture, rhythms and oral traditions. His music is deeply rooted in spirituality, from his first 2015 album, Prender el Alma, which linked consciousness and spirituality with music to his 2019 release Siku which dives into cultures as inspiration. The album is soft and subtle, featuring guest vocal performers like Castello Branco on one of my favorite tracks “Criançada.”
If you’re a fan of cultural electronic sounds and are tired of EDM dominating the electronic dance scene, check out Nicola Cruz on his tour.
