A sick cluster of noise from all directions, Chicago hometown hero Ministry is coming mid next year. Starting in 1981, Ministry is the project and band of Al Jourgensen, with ever-shifting band members to add their unique blend. Ministry started out originally as a synth-pop band, and quickly developed into what Ministry is now known for, several amalgamations of industrial, heavy metal, thrash, and darkwave. Ministry is not shy when it comes to controversy and political commentary, in the early 2000s making 3 albums dedicated to critiquing former president George Bush known as “The Bush Trilogy”. Ministry has been a monumental figure in bringing the industrial dance music out of the underground, and into further popularization.
Since starting, Ministry has never stopped. In 1983 they released their debut album, With Sympathy which was a synth-pop and EBM album. With the release of their third album, The Land of Rape and Honey in 1988 produced a landmark shift in Ministry’s style that it would later become known for. Their next album, Psalm 69 explores the elements of what makes Ministry great and is considered by many to be their most prestigious album. In 2004, the beginning of “The Bush Trilogy” began to take shape, first with Houses of the Mole, then Rio Grande Blood in 2006, and The Last Sucker in 2007. Their most recent studio album is AmeriKKKant released in 2018.
Ministry has been a part of the Chicago scene for decades now and is influential throughout the world for their innovations. Be sure to see them live next year.
