New Order and Pet Shop Boys have rescheduled their co-headlining “The Unity Tour” from fall 2020 to 2021. Their new date for The Hollywood Bowl is October 15, 2021. The Unity Tour will feature these two iconic British pop bands in one night, which is quite a steal at a minimum $29.50 a ticket.
New Order formed in 1980 by vocalist and guitarist Bernard Sumner, bassist Peter Hook, and drummer Stephen Morris. They formed following the suicide of Ian Curtis and the demise of Joy Division, and were joined by Gillian Gilbert on keyboards later in 1980. They’re one of the most influential bands of the ’80s, mixing post-punk with electronic sounds. “Blue Monday” was (and still is) one of the most popular dance club songs following its’ release in 1983. They released three highly successful albums in the ’80s including Power, Corruption & Lies (1983), Technique (1989), and the singles compilation Substance (1987). They’ve taken plenty of hiatuses, but recently have gotten back together through live performance. The 2019 Substance Festival featured New Order as a headlining act, which I was fortunate enough to see.
Electronic duo Pet Shop Boys formed in London in 1981 and consist of Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe. Together, they’re an ’80s hit machine with a total of 42 Top 30 singles including “West End Girls” (number one on the US Billboard Hot 100), “It’s a Sin”, their synth-pop version of “Always on My Mind” and “Heart.”
This is definitely going to be one of the most upbeat, dance-worthy shows of 2021. To top it off, the show will be at the gorgeous Hollywood Bowl where you can enjoy some of the greatest ’80s hits out in the open.
