Mix Master Mike and Steve Jordan have released a new video for “Meltdown Sequence,” and have included never-before-seen footage of famous painter, Salvador Dalí. The song comes as part of Mix Master Mike and Jordan’s Beat Odyssey 2020, which had been released this last Friday. The album had been recorded live, with the duo improvising much of their set.
The “Meltdown Sequence” music video features Dalí, who had been renounced for his surrealist paintings. The painter, adorned in sparkling white robes and his iconic twisted mustache, walked toward the camera. He picks up an old telephone, speaking into it, and barks orders at someone appearing off screen. The mashed-up beat of the track experiments with surrealism in its own way, highlighting some of Dalí’s character. Some of Dalí’s most iconic pieces also appear in the music video, the drums and synths clashing together in a unique style.
The track’s release follows the album’s first single, “The Gospel,” which had been dedicated to all of the non-violent protests which have been occurring since late-May. Both Mix Master Mike and Jordan have shown their support for Black Lives Matter, with Mix Master Mike returning his key to the city of Louisville to the city’s mayor following the murder of Breonna Taylor.
“In a world of deception, we need a frequency to guide us all through,” Mix Master Mike said in a press statement.
This past June, Jordan collaborated with Bootsy Collins, Cornel West and Bela Fleck for the track “Stars,” the song’s proceeds going towards the MusiCares Foundation. Jordan has also expressed his support for the protests, stating how he and Mix Master Mike hope their music can bring a positive influence, and urging for the fight to keep going.
“In 2020, we’re marching louder, longer and more collectively than ever before, Jordan said in a press statement. “We’re keeping the dreams and hopes alive for a just and peaceful society. We are all created equal.”
