Combining elements of traditional Indian music with American 60s pop, Elephant Stone brings genres of music together to create a psychedelic dreamscape. Created by frontman Rishi Dhir, he implements his expertise of traditional Indian instruments such as the sitar, tabla, and dilruba, along with the bass. Rishi’s vocals are a perfect mirror of the kind of style that was used in the 60s. Elephant stones lyrics elate a kind of desire for a mystical understanding of the world, and their music is often paired with music video’s using trippy animations. They have collaborated with renowned indie rock artists such as Beck and The Brian Jonestown Massacre.
Elephant Stone released its debut album in 2009 titled The Seven Seas, which introduced the band’s signature style and garnered them acclaim and a nomination from the Polaris Music Prize Long-List. Their 3rd self titled album gained critical acclaim from NPR, Brooklyn Vegan, Consequence of Sound, and more. Their fourth album, The Three Poisons, has darker undertones, as well as expansion on Dhir’s thoughts on Buddism and the Tibetan Book of the Dead. They released their newest album, Ship of Fools in 2016, and their newest single, Land Of Dead was released in 2019.
Come see an iconic blend of Eastern and Western influences and the innovation behind the psychedelic sound, live.
