Refused have released another track as Samurai, the in-game fictional band from the upcoming video game Cyberpunk 2077, set for release on November 19. This latest song is called “A Like Supreme” and follows their previously released track as Samurai, “The Ballad of Buck Ravers,” which was released at the end of June.
“A Like Supreme” opens up with some light melodic guitar chords and gentle synths that give the track a sprawling futuristic feel. After this brief build up the rest of the instrumental kicks in, with the track going into overdrive with harsh guitar chords, pounding drums and shouted vocals.
There have been a few developments regarding Cyberpunk 2077 since the release of “The Ballad of Buck Ravers.” There will not be Cyberpunk 2077 beta, nor a wall-running mechanic, but further developments were explored in Night City Wire Episode 2. Although the game’s launch date was pushed back yet again, there have been frequent updates via the Night City Wire events.
Dennis Lyxzén, Refused’s lead vocalist, teamed up with Brian Baker to form a new punk supergroup called Fake Names back in March, accompanied by the release of a new single called “Bricks.” Refused released their most recent studio album War Music last fall.
“It’s admirable that Refused listened to their fans and tried to give them what they want, but, let’s be honest, fans of Refused won’t be happy with the band unless they drop another Shape of Punk to Come,” mxdwn reviewer Ty Ribarchik explained. “That being said, even though War Music feels like a bit of a retread, it’s an undeniably solid slice of post-hardcore that is sure to satisfy casual fans.”
Lyxzén recently appeared in a video discussing Refused’s work as Samurai. This video contains a few clips from unreleased tracks that will be featured in the game, as well as some behind the scenes footage regarding the game’s score. The two unreleased tracks are “Chippin’ In” and “Never Fade Away,” which are briefly shown alongside “The Ballad of Buck Ravers” and “A Like Supreme.”
