Damien Escobar is an acclaimed American violinist born and raised in Jamaica, Queens, New York. Raised by a single mother with an older brother, Damien Escobar first picked up a violin at age eight but quickly found that he was a prodigy. At age ten, Damien Escobar became the youngest ever to get accepted into Julliard School of Music. As children, Damien and his brother had worked as street musicians together but after graduating from Julliard, Damien and Tourie formed a duo called Nuttin’ But Stringz. The duo even went onto America’s Got Talent and took third place. They also performed at the inauguration of Barack Obama while also winning two Emmys. Since 2012, however, Damien has been pursuing a solo career, releasing his first solo album, Sensual Melodies, in 2014.
Damien Escobar’s musical style is distinct, incorporating elements of classical, jazz, pop, R&B, and hip-hop. This style is better titled as a “crossover violin” style and is reminiscent of his upbringing in the neighborhood of Jamaica, Queens as well as his classical training at Julliard as well as Bloomingdale School of Music. On December 7th in the year 2021, Damien Escobar will be coming to Yoshi’s in Oakland to perform for her Bay Area fans.
