Canadian orchestral-pop group The Dears are coming to the Moroccan Lounge on February 10, 2021. This performance was initially scheduled to take place on May 15 of this year, but was postponed due to Covid-19. This stop will be part of their tour, which is set to begin this fall. The tour is in support of their latest release, Lover’s Rock, released on May 15, 2020.
The Dears formed in Montreal area in 1995 and have adapted into a noir, chamber-pop ensemble over the years. The husband and wife duo of Murray Lightburn and keyboardist Natalia Yanchak have carried the torch for the band while other members have been somewhat of a rotating door. Together, they have 13 albums under their belt and have shared stages with indie greats like Spiritualized, Arcade Fire, Broken Social Scene, Daniel Lanois, Rufus Wainwright, Zemfira, Bloc Party, Keane, Morrissey, The Tragically Hip and Metric and Death From Above.
Their 2004 album No Cities Left put them on the map as one of their most successful albums according to critics. Their 2011 album Degeneration Street was rock refinement at its’ best. Even their more subtle albums like 2006’s Gang of Losers and 2008’s Missles are sophisticated and inviting. Their 2020 album Lover’s Rock is dark but eclectic.
