Land of Talk is a popular indie rock band that was first formed in 2006 in Montreal. Composed of Elizabeth Powell, Joe Yarmush, and Andrew Barr, Elizabeth Powell is largely the face of the band as Land of Talk’s lead singer and guitarist. Elizabeth had also previously pursued a solo career under the moniker, ELE_K*, but met the two other members of the band at Concordia University and formed Land of Talk. They released their first EP, Applause Cheer Boo Hiss, in 2006 which spawned several stand-out tracks. Land of Talk then released their full-length album, Some Are Lakes, shortly after in 2008. Since then, the band has released three more albums and two EPs. A fourth album was slated for release in 2020 and was released in May.
Even after Land of Talk’s four-year break, the band has proven to be one that’ll last for decades to come. The hiatus only marked a change in the band’s musical style, a style now inspired by classical and Japanese music from the tonkori. This marked change can be witnessed by Bay Area fans alike on February 2nd in the year 2021 when Land of Talk will come to The Independent to perform for fans. Be sure to catch Land of Talk there and continue to follow MXDWN for all your music updates.
