Supergroup Gone Is Gone Releases New Intense Track “Everything Is Wonderfall”

Gone is Gone released a new song, “Everything Is Wonderfall,” and its music video. They teased the song Tuesday on Twitter with the caption, “you can be in tune with the universe but it is not in tune with you.”

The supergroup includes Mastodon’s Troy Sanders as lead singer, Queens of the Stone Age’s Troy Van Leeuwen on guitar and At The Drive-In’s Tony Hajjar on drums. Mike Zarin provides backing vocals and guitar. They formed in 2016 and released their self-titled debut EP that year. In 2017, the group released their debut album, Echolocation.

The hard-rock, midtempo song features heavy drumming from Hajjar. It has a distinct guitar riff from Van Leeuwen, while Sanders provides intense yet dark vocals. Around the 2-minute mark, Sanders gives a spoken-word verse, where he whispers ominously. The music video is just as dark and mysterious. It contains several shots of glass breaking, a woman dancing, chess pieces and dice. It begins with a caterpillar creating a cocoon, and at the video’s end, it emerges as a butterfly.

In a statement, Hajjar said, “As the world was locking down and musicians were figuring out a new normal, we were fortunately and unfortunately doing what this band has always had to do to continue creating. This song was started with a jam and then cut up and edited to be fitting to a new sound that we are trying out. We want our songs to be able to fit in a band format or switch into an electronic-based format that can live on its own as a second arm of the band’s sound.”

Gone is Gone have not announced if “Everything Is Wonderfall” is from an upcoming album or EP.  In December, the group released the song and video for “No One Ever Walked on Water.” In October, they gave a rare live performance in Germany, their fourth overall as a group and their first outside of Los Angeles.
