Eulaulah Donyll Hathaway, better known as Lalah Hathaway, is an iconic Grammy-award winning singer and daughter of the legendary Donny Hathaway. However, Lalah Hathaway is first and foremost an artist in her own right, showing versatility and unique talent rare in her generation of female singers. Lalah Hathaway first released her self-titled debut recording in 1990 and was met with moderate success and chart numbers. Lalah soon released her sophomore album, A Moment, in 1994 before taking a hiatus for six years. However, even before the long break that she took, Lalah had already become known for her live performance skills and technique as a versatile vocalist. So when she returned in 1999, Lalah’s subsequent releases throughout the 2000s and 2010s were all successful and contained exclusive features from the likes of Mike City and Rex Rideout.
Since then, Lalah Hathaway has been cemented as one of the most talented R&B artists of the contemporary era and even led to five Grammy wins from 2014 to 2017. From her musically-inclined family, Lalah Hathaway has successfully made a name for herself as one of the best contemporary R&B singers the world has seen thus far. And when Lalah Hathaway comes to the Bay Area’s Yoshi’s Jazz Club on August 7th, you’ll be able to see it too. Catch Lalah on August 4th in Oakland and catch MXDWN for all your future music updates.
