Grammy Award winner and Billboard’s top Jazz artist, Norah Jones released her new video “To Live” from her Pick Me off the Floor album on June 11, 2020. The video depicts Jones singing and playing piano, Nate Smith playing drums, Jesse Murphy playing bass, Dave Guy playing trumpet and Leon Michels playing tenor saxophone from their individual homes.

The song sounds like an “Amazing Grace” style Southern Baptist hymn with touches of blues, soul, Americana, and jazz. It is not surprising that Jones appears so at home singing this style of music as she has been singing in church since she was a child.

Jones, who prefers to connect with people through music, states in an NPR interview “I still am not great at using my words; I’d rather sing my feelings, in general. In public, I am not someone who wants to go on a tirade or rant or write a big opinion piece. That is just not my personality publicly. But singing songs for people is what I do, it is what I enjoy, it is something that I get a good release from. It is how I express myself, it’s what makes me feel better. So, connecting with people in that way has been really, really beautiful for me, especially because I don’t go on social media and express my thoughts that way.”

Jones played a livestream version of “To Live” on Good Morning America from her home on June 16, 2020.
