Debut EP highlights band’s promise
Living Gate released their debut EP Deathlust on June 12 and the music is incredible. Musicians Aaron Rieseberg from YOB, Lennart Bossu from Oathbreaker and Amenra, Wim Coppers from Oathbreaker and Wiegedood and Levy Seynaeve from Amenra and Wiegedood clash into each other to create worthy death metal music. The guitar playing from Bossu, Seynaeve and Rieseberg blazes each track with ear-bleeding noise and Coppers’ drumming fills each tune with erratic beats. Deathlust is a promising record filled with raging songs.
Thunderous “Roped” shows who the band is through the instrumentation. Each guitar note fills the atmosphere with rich and clear sounds and it is nice to hear three talented guitarists who crafted their musical style creatively into this composition. Also, the drumming is top notch by how Coppers produces sheering drum beats with each note. His ability to produce quality sounds stands out on this piece.
Headbanging “Heaven Ablaze” can shake the veins of those who are listening due to the bass guitar rumbling in the background. Rieseberg’s talent is wonderful and his ability to cause havoc while playing is satisfying to hear because his riffs provide the signature sound metal fans want to hear. “Heaven Ablaze” has a righteous musical style and the track can fulfill some of the expectations people may have towards the band.
Electrifying “Living Gate” shows listeners what classic death metal should sound like. For any kind of metal music, the guitar playing needs to be on fire because the notes create a high energy, causing people to dance like crazy, and the drum playing needs to be fast paced because the music pattern needs to be kept together while all the band members stay in tune with each other. “Living Gate” is a great example of death metal because each instrument contains the musical elements to create lively music. Living Gate displays their true colors on the track and people will not be disappointed.
Mesmerizing “Deathlust” is a wonderful track with how the vocals blend in with the rest of the music. What is lovely about this piece is how the dark, authoritative and grungy vocals brings a feeling of darkness to those who are listening and the vocal range is good because the deep sound coming from the voice adds depth while the rest of the band keeps performing. Towards the end of the song, a quick blast of a shrilling voice can be heard and the noisy screams contributes to the craziness. “Deathlust” is a fantastic song.
Fast-paced “The Delusion of Consciousness” introduces listeners to the album with a hard blast of music. The guitar playing is a bit different from the previous songs because both Bossu and Seynaeve switch from hard to harmonic notes. The melody coming from the softer guitar notes blends in well with the rigorous musical pattern and it adds a touch of variety throughout the song. Also, Rieseberg’s bass playing is amplified by how he continuously plays low riffs on a faster tempo. “The Delusion of Consciousness” is an enjoyable tune and people will be impressed with the creativity of this piece.
Living Gate have proved that they are a new supergroup because Deathlust is an amazing album filled with music that can fulfill the expectations from those who are willing to listen.
