Post punk legends Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds are heading out on their North American 2020 tour this fall, taking indie stars Weyes Blood with them. They’ll be hitting the Staples Center on October 10, and will cover Europe and the UK in 2021. While it’s hard to imagine a group like Nick Cave at a venue that will also host acts like The Lumineers and Janet Jackson, the fact that the show appears to be on track to selling out is a testament to their following and success.
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds have been making music consistently since the early ’80s. What started in ’78 as post-punk band The Birthday Party turned into a group withstanding the tests of time. The band has released 17 studio albums to date, and have several tours under their belt. Cave and several group members have also dabbled in acting and writing, Cave himself releasing a book in ’89.
Their sound has spanned across genres, as they delved into a more experimental, alternative sound after the release of Tender Prey in ’88. Yet, their sound has remained consistently dark and brooding. The group have gone through several lineup iterations, working with members of The Cramps, Sonic Youth and more. Their latest album Ghosteen was released in 2019 and is one of the band’s most subdued efforts yet. The album reflects on the pain of loss and the everlasting bonds of family.
Weyes Blood, aka Natalie Mering, will support Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds on tour. Coming off an extremely successful album Titanic Rising, she’ll bring her own depth and ethereality to the start of the show.
