North Carolina’s Squirrel Nut Zippers and The Dirty Dozen Brass Band are hitting the road for their 25th Anniversary Tour in celebration of their debut 1995 album, The Inevitable Squirrel Nut Zippers. They’re making a stop in Los Angeles on September 11 at the Teragram Ballroom, so put on your swing dancing shoes and come on down!
Squirrel Nut Zippers draw inspiration from ’30s-era Swing, New Orleans Jazz, Delta Blues, Klezmer and more. They rose to fame in the late ’90s swing revival, primarily through the release of their 1996 single “Hell.” This isn’t their first album anniversary tour; band leaders Jimbo Mathus and Chris Phillips reunited the band in 2016 and hit the road for the 20th anniversary of Hot, their best selling album.
While the group have gone through different lineup iterations and inactive periods, they’re still actively touring and making music! In 2018, they released Beasts of Burgundy, which still featured Mathus on vocals, but featured a smoother, fuller sound than previous releases.
For this particular show, the band will perform their entire debut album (originally released in 1995) along with “a selection of hits, near misses and way out songs,” according to the performance description. Get your ticket to this time warp of a show and dance and swoon the night away!
