Archy Ivan Marshall, better known as King Krule or Edgar the Beatmaker, is a popular English singer-songwriter, rapper, record producer, and musician. Born and raised in London, King Krule struggled with school growing up, harboring anxiety and discipline issues with the institution. However, it was through this struggle that his love for music and art was born. He particularly is inspired by visual media, leading to his music being accompanied by carefully curated and designed visuals and music videos. As a jack-of-all-trades, King Krule first began recording and putting out music in 2010 under the name Zoo Kid. Since then, King Krule has released several EPs and multiple studio albums. His initial debut album, 6 Feet Beneath the Moon, was met with immediate positive reviews and reception.
King Krule’s music has been described by critics as a combination of elements of darkwave, trip hop, hip hop, and punk jazz. However, King Krule himself has described his music as literature-inspired, drawing particular inspiration from poetry. On September 19th, this poetry-inspired music will be displayed live at the Bay Area’s Fox Theater in promotion of King Krule’s most recent release, Man Alive!.
