Enjoy the History of American Culture with Brittany Howard (of Alabama Shakes), Thundercat and Georgia Anne Muldrow at the Hollywood Bowl

It seems America is finally beginning to accept the origins of it’s art and culture. Perhaps no show is more indicative of this shift than Brittany Howard (of Alabama Shakes), Thundercat, Georgia Anne Muldrow taking the stage at the Hollywood Bowl on 8/16. To those who don’t know what’s being discussed. The root of it is that the initial bits of all meaningful parts of American cultural export (hip-hop, jazz, rock, blues, barbecue, and so much more) are all things that are either strongly the province of black Americans or were stolen from them without credit.

While this concert is nowhere near the repayment required, it is special in its own sort of way. Each of these musicians is extremely unique and in a lane of their own, existing in a world that is either free of influence, or that largely pulls from black American artists of ages past.

There’s little value in fully dissecting each of these artists, but know that all of them are either the best or arguably the best at what they do. Brittany Howard might be the best modern blues singer, Georgia Anne Muldrow is pushing the boundaries of funk music to the outer edges, and Thundercat is almost assuredly the best living bassist. This thrilling combination of artists is sure to turn this show into a must see event. That it’s taking place at the Hollywood Bowl is only further incentive to attend.
