Austin based alt rock band Pure X has announced their first new album since their 2014 album Angel, and have released the first two singles of the album, “Middle America,” and “Fantasy”. This will be the band’s fourth studio album, in addition to their 2011 album Pleasure and their 2013 album Crawling Up The Stairs.
The two singles introduce new listeners to the gritty and grimy style Pure X uses in their music, and reasserts themselves to old fans who have not heard new music from the band in six years. “Fantasy” provides listeners with a mellow yet distorted vocal melody with soothing grungy guitar background, while the video shows a wooden stick burning in one continuous shot. Contrasty, “Middle America” provides deeper lyrics which call into question society’s blind eye toward the majority population of America through a series of visuals that outline the harsh conditions present in America.
Pure X has been inactive for six years, and they last performed at Austin Psych Fest in 2014, the year of their last album release. Unfortunately for Pure X, they are releasing new music at a horrible time when it comes to taking their live music and performing it on the road for their fans. With the coronavirus pandemic currently halting all live music, hopefully the band will take to social media to take their new album and perform it in a somewhat live environment for their fans.
