After collaborating on the score of acclaimed Netflix Luke Cage and releasing an album together in 2018, The Midnight Hour, Adrian Younge and Ali Shaheed Muhammad have joined forces again, contributing music for an episode of the upcoming Apple TV+’s docu-series Home. The show will take a detailed look at incredible homes across the globe, exploring their history and the inspiring people behind their creation.
Today we’re premiering a new song from the soundtrack, a short but sweet bit of funky soul called “In My Neighborhood” that was written for an episode that explores Chicago artist Theaster Gates’ incredible, visionary home. The jazz-influenced track is centered around handclaps and a soulful organ.
“The life and work of Theaster Gates is inspiring,” said Muhammad. “It is important that his story is told in a platform that has global reach. When the producers of Home and Apple TV+ asked us to score Theaster’s episode, we felt a responsibility to contribute to this special story and to be in allegiance with Home.”
Adrian Younge is a renowned producer who has collaborated with Ghostface Killah, Jay-Z, Kendrick Lamar and countless others. Muhammad is a member of the pioneering hip-hop group A Tribe Called Quest, helping produce some of the most influential albums in the genre.
“As black composers, it’s an honor to provide the sonic landscape for the black experience,” said Younge. “This beautiful story moved us and we had to respond with our feelings, in sound.”
The Home Season One soundtrack will be available on Apple Music exclusively starting April 17, which is also the date that the show begins streaming on Apple TV+. The soundtrack will be released everywhere on June 19. Presave the album here.
