Get Riled Up In Pomona with Run the Jewels on 10/15

As much as yesterday’s article about Andrew Bird and Iron & Wine was focused on the need for calm, these times also demand a bit of energy. Luckily, there’s more than a few bands and artists that are coming hot out of quarantine and ready to bring the heat. Of all the numerous heavy groups out there, perhaps none are more specifically equipped for this current moment than Run The Jewels.

This duo sprung up after Killer Mike released R.A.P. Music in 2010 alongside producer el P, and the pair have been inseparable ever since. Their collaboration has led to three stellar albums, and they’ve already entered the argument of greatest rap duos ever alongside greats like Eric B and Rakim, and Outkast. While they lack the longevity of those artists, their batting average is absolutely impeccable.

As far as the current moment is concerned. Run the Jewels, or RTJ as they are more commonly known, isn’t afraid to call out those in power on both the left and the right. Killer Mike in particular has aligned himself with the leftist movements of politicians like Bernie Sanders, and has been extremely outspoken in his disdain for Donald Trump and right wing politicians in general.

Given the nature of our current situation I can’t think of anything better than heading over to the Fox Pomona and getting riled up with Run The Jewels.
