Sometimes, nothing gets us like some good old emo post-punk music. If you’re like me, you remember listening to this stuff circa early 2000s on your iPod and channeling your teen angst. What if I told you that some of the best of the genre are joining forces and going on tour together this summer? Bayside is going on their 20 Years of Bad Luck Tour in which they will play their new AND old music and they will be accompanied by Senses Fail, Hawthorne Heights and Can’t Swim. The bands will be making an appearance at Austin’s very own Emo’s on Wednesday, June 17th. The show is for all ages with doors opening at 6pm and the show starting an hour later at 7. Advance general admission tickets are on sale now for $25 and will be up to $29 on the day of the show.
Bayside formed in 2000 in New York and began promoting their early material on Myspace and gaining a small but true group of fans. By the release of their self-titled debut in August of 2005, the band had already made a mark at some of the biggest alternative punk festivals such as Skate and Surf Fest and the well-known Vans Warped Tour. The boys are still at it with latest album Interrobang which was released just last year. With moody lyrics that display their cathartic nature with a hopeful streak, Bayside remains loyal to the genre of emo punk music and maintains their unwavering fanbase.
Post-hardcore band Senses Fail made a huge impression on fans of emo and pop punk music alike in the early 2000s. Forming officially in 2002 out of New Jersey, the band has been growing along with the ever-evolving emo punk music scene. Their full-length debut album Let it Unfold You was released in 2004 during the prime of post-hardcore music. During their time of extensive touring and several album releases, the band’s lineup changed multiple times but the vision and style of the band as a whole hasn’t faltered. Senses Fail make music that we can relate to and they really dig deep into real emotions and circumstances the world is facing in their latest album If There is a Light it Will Find You.
Hailing from their hometown of Dayton, Ohio, Hawthorne Heights are unquestionably an iconic band from the emo post-hardcore scene and were one of the first bands to start promoting their music on the social network site Myspace. Their debut album The Silence in Black and White was released in 2004 and was blasted through the headphones of many emo rock fans. The album featured their hits “Ohio is for Lovers” and “Niki FM”. After the tragic death of beloved screamer/guitarist Casey Calvert, the emotional toll on the band was evident, but their collective strength enabled them to continue. They had to change their musical style a bit, but still remain true to their musical roots. The band’s latest album Lost Frequencies was released last year through Pure Noise Records.
Catch this incredible lineup for a bit of nostalgia and a place to share some honest, raw emotions and just let go!
