Sound and Fury Festival brings Joy Back to Headbangers in Ventura

The Ventura County fairgrounds used to be legendary. To a certain subset of punker/emo kid, Vans Warped tour was church, and the VC Fairgrounds were it’s Mecca. Though that festival has long since faded into the ether, and it’s particular place at the VC Fairgrounds dissipated even earlier, someone must have been clinging onto the memories of the fairgrounds when they created the Sound and Fury festival.

Operating largely in an updated version of the same space that Vans Warped tour occupied, Sound and Fury takes the sounds that powered a generation and replaces them with heavier, more meaningful versions. Just a few of the bands featured at this version of the festival include Jesus Piece, Touche Amore and Knocked Loose. Each of these bands, on top of being incredible in their own right, are clearly groups inspired by the soul of Warped Tour and have taken those sound ideas and ran with them.

To those of us who missed the days of congregating with our friends in a dusty fairground by the seaside this seems to be the balm to our affliction. It’s time to break out the band shirts and the dusty all-stars and join into the fun yet again. Here’s to hoping that this heavy festival manages to stick around and become a new breeding ground for headbangers once more.
