The Moroccan Lounge seems to take joy in oddity. One need only take a glance at their lineup to see that they are always booking some of the strangest and most exciting artists of the current moment and giving them a larger than usual platform to perform on. This time the tables have flipped, though the oddity of the act in question remains the same.
Half Waif is the musical pseudonym of Nandi Rose Plunkett, who has been crafting luscious outsider pop music since 2014 when she released her debut record Kotekan. Kotekan garnered significant praise despite being a smaller release. This acclaim allowed her to expand her sound on her follow up albums, Probable Depths and Lavender. Lavender in particular propelled her to new heights and realms of critical acclaim.
A Half Waif concert isn’t exactly a rowdy affair, but it isn’t the calmest thing in the world either. Her penchant for oddity makes her concerts a mixture of soothing and uncomfortable. By exposing her audiences to a variety of emotions she’s made herself into a must see musical act and I have no doubt that the Moroccan Lounge will be a perfect opportunity for her to showcase her unique skill set.
Provided that this concert proceeds as planned you can grab tickets to see Half Waif at the Moroccan Lounge on 5/21. Get them quick, I wouldn’t miss out on this, plus we could all use some time outside of the house.
