Kanye West and Taylor Swift have a long and complicated history, and new details over their 2016 skirmish regarding the song “Famous” from West’s 2016 album The Life Of Pablo have begun to surface, according to Heavy. The song, which opens with the line, “To all the south side n****s that know be best / I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex / Why? I made that bitch famous,” blatantly calls out Swift in regards to her previous beefs with West, and the accompanying music video that was released later shows West and Swift in bed together, with a myriad of other celebrities.
At the time of the release of the album four years earlier, Swift called out West for using the line without her permission, when West’s wife, Kim Kardashian, revealed audio from a phone call that appeared to be Swift giving West permission to use that line in the song. West’s fans attacked Swift at the time, and she felt the need to retreat from the public eye due to the aggressive backlash she was facing from fans. Swift faced major repercussions from the backlash she faced, and she was largely inactive throughout most of 2016 due to what transpired between her and West.
Now, a new video has just surfaced that reveals more of the conversation West had with Swift, in which it is clear Swift did not give full permission to West to use that line. Swift’s whose fanbase is just as passionate and ready to act, if not more so than West’s, have already begun to react to West, as the hashtags “Kim Kardashian Is Over” and “Kanye West Is Over” have begun to trend on Twitter.
Knowing West (and Kim Kardashian), it does not seem likely that this will be the final word on the matter. West and Swift’s beef goes all the way back to the VMAs in 2009, in which West famously interrupted Swift’s acceptance speech to give his public opinion on the matter, saying Beyoncé’s video was better than Swift, who was just 19 years old at the time. Swift also believes West played her in 2015, when he asked her to present him the VMA Vanguard Award, only to have him claim she was just presenting the award for a ratings boost.
