The Met Is Hosting the Incredible Tenacious D on October 7

I sincerely hope you have heard of Tenacious D — if not, I encourage you to stop reading and listen to their music and watch their videos. If anything, watch the Tribute video online and you’ll get a sense for this hilarious, yet actually talented, comedy rock duo. It consists of Jack Black, of course, and his counterpart Kyle Gass. The two have an incredible, unique friendship and musical chemistry and have won a Grammy for Best Metal Performance. They only have 4 albums but they are absolute gold, starting with their incredible self-titled debut album from 2001. It is certified ARIA Gold and RIAA Platinum in the US and 2x Platinum in the UK, also reaching 33 on the Billboard 200.

Their next 2 albums, The Pick of Destiny (2006) and Rize of the Fenix (2012) received similar rave reviews. The former is certified Gold in the UK and Austria and Platinum in Ireland, also reaching #8 on the Billboard 200. The latter reached #4 on the Billboard 200 and had great success abroad as well. They have described themselves as “mock rock” and their incredible fusion of musical ability and absurd and often vulgar comedy has built them a large cult-like following. I have to say I have been a fan for quite some time and I am definitely looking forward to when they come to town. Mark your calendars for an unforgettable night on October 7!
