It’s been two decades since Incubus’s iconic song, “Drive” gained the band their much deserved mainstream recognition, but Incubus has been delivering their unique form of grunge and funk since 1991. They started out in a suburb of Calabasas, California, with inspiration from the Red Hot Chili Peppers and became one of the last bands during the time of rap rock and a popular band for fans of alternative and metal in the early 2000s. Starting out as high school friends jamming together, Incubus has evolved significantly over the years and continues to get us thinking deeply about every aspect of life.
Incubus’s 1999 album Make Yourself marked the band’s road to stardom, attracting the attention of MTV which aired music videos from the album on TRL. They followed in 2001 with the release of Morning View and began selling out shows and making a name for themselves to rock fans everywhere. Eight studio albums and four EPs later, Incubus has explored love, pain, fear and a variety of emotions all while maintaining their funky, hip hop punk edginess. At the end of January of this year, they released their single “Our Love” which displays a more melodic rock approach and may be different from their previous style, but still shows how they can switch it up and keep us on our toes.
The band will kick off a summer tour this May and will be playing a show in Austin at the Germania Insurance Amphitheater on Wednesday, July 29th with special guests 311 and Badflower. It’s pretty much a given that this show will sell out so get your tickets early!
